Hero’s Journey Webinar
January 30, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm CSTFree
The Hero’s Journey is widely used in Hollywood as a storyline for a blockbuster movie. Like, “17 steps to a better screenplay”.
But that is not its real purpose. It is intended as a guide for our inner journey of transformation, of becoming who we are meant to be.
The myth of the hero(ine) was at the front and center of Carl Jung’s work. The hero is the man or woman who undertakes their individuation, the process of becoming who you’re meant to be and doing what you’re meant to do.
Joseph Campbell wrote, “The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.”
The Hero’s Journey involves a “dark night of the soul”, a sense loss, separation, which is necessary for the ego to surrender and let go so your true self can emerge.
If you do not live your life, you abdicate it and live a collective life, a life that society prescribes. Or you get stuck somewhere in between, in a kind of no man’s land.
Joseph Campbell undertook the monumental task of researching the Hero’s Journey as it appears in cultures all over the globe. The result is a brilliant framework he describes in “The Hero with the Thousand Faces”.
I will be illustrating the Hero’s Journey process with examples from important archetypes and myths in our society.
When you go on a journey, it helps to have a compass to determine your direction. We will show how Jungian typology is such a compass.
